Knowing how to speak and write in multiple languages is an asset in today’s society. Many companies pay more to employees who are bilingual because they understand the importance of knowing how to communicate in more than one language.
If you’re bilingual and can communicate fluently in more than one language, both verbally and in writing, then working from home as a translator may be the perfect job for you.
What is Translation?
The job of a professional translator is to take documents that are written in one language, and correctly write them, verbatim, in another language. These documents could include anything such as medical records, legal documents, books, or business documents.
Education and Skills Needed
You must have at least a high school diploma or GED. Some companies will require a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Skills needed to be a professional translator include an excellent command of your native and second languages, both written and verbal. You must have perfect grammar, spelling, and punctuation, excellent typing and writing skills, and excellent computer skills.
How Much do Translators Make?
According to ZipRecruiter, the average pay in the United States for a translator is $30 per hour. But, of course, the salary will depend upon your education and experience.
Some of these companies require previous experience, however, there are a few that don’t require any experience at all.
